What is Counselling?

Power of Counselling and Coaching

Counselling is a process where a counsellor guides their client towards a resolution for problems in everyday life and relationships. The counsellor provides emotional support, encourages personal growth, and assists their client as they develop new ways of behaving or dealing with difficult situations. The client and counsellor work together to set the agenda and goals for change.

Counselling is not about giving advice, rather it is being empowered to make decisions about our own lives. During counselling we are safe to share our story and to develop new perspectives that will help us discover the areas we need to grow in.

Loss and subsequent grief is part of all of our lives. Loss can include bereavement, the loss of a job, a relationship, your sense of self or a dream. Counselling can help us acknowledge and process the loss, as well as help us to build strategies for the future, moving forward without that which was lost.

Individual sessions can help us learn to accept ourselves. This helps with developing better relationships with others and assist us to feel more in control of our lives. Counselling creates a space for us to open up about our feelings and to gain tools in order to manage them.

During counselling you will be treated with respect and confidentiality. Confidentiality is maintained except in reportable cases. This is when there is a risk to yourself or others aged eighteen or younger.

Coaching

Once the major mental health issues are recovering then the life coaching journey starts. Here we can discuss current life events and discover new ways of looking at situations. We ascertain how to balance and grow in ten different areas of our life; work, friends, money, family, environment, marriage, well-being, spiritual, fun, and personal development. Christian coaching is available on request.

Practice of Gratitude

Gratitude is an important practice for taking care of our mental health. Don’t let fear of the future or shame from your past steal your peace.

Gratitude has proven physical benefits such as reducing our stress hormones levels.

At Bridge to Wholeness Elize has taught many individuals how to implement the practice of gratitude into their lives, and it has radically changed their lives.

Power of Inner Healing

Just as we can physically get hurt and the wound can get infected and not heal properly, we can also experience mental, emotional and spiritual wounds. Those wounds can cause unhealthy cycles and belief systems to develop in our lives.

Unfortunately, we are often unaware of what wounds need addressing until pain, and unhealthy behaviors cause us to get stuck in life.

But there is hope! Jesus came to bring wholeness to our broken hearts. He didn’t just come to heal our broken bodies, but also our hearts, and minds. His wholeness enables us to live fully alive, and to love Him with all our heart, soul and mind.

During prayer ministry we allow God to show us the wounds and unhealthy belief systems in our lives, to drain the pain and trauma from these areas and to do what He does best – to heal.
